The North Lowther Energy Initiative is a joint venture between 2020 Renewables and Buccleuch.

2020 Renewables is a dynamic company specialising in developing, constructing and operating renewable energy projects with over two decades of experience across the United Kingdom.

Buccleuch comprises the business interests of the Buccleuch family, including commercial property investment and development, hospitality and tourism, energy, rural land management, rural sports and a wholesale tree nursery.

Together these two firms are involved in a number of innovative energy initiatives.

2020 and Buccleuch are working with partners including Scottish Government, Scottish Mines Restoration Trust, Dumfries and Galloway Council and Hargreaves Services on the restoration of the Glemuckloch open cast coalmine.

Through this collaboration a significant number of local jobs have been retained, and in addition an innovative community-owned turbine scheme has been established with pupils from Sanquhar Academy administering more than £2m revenue for local projects.

2020 Renewables and Buccleuch have also secured planning consent for an eight turbine windfarm adjacent to the community windfarm scheme, and a 400MW pumped storage hydro scheme at the former mine.
